Fredrik Kayser Lounge Chair

We have just restored this beautiful solid teak lounge chair by Fredrik Kayser (Norwegian 1924-1968)

Born in Bergen and educated at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry. He was especially known for elegant and sculptural designed chairs.  We think the newly upholstered cushions in a teal Scottish tweed wool contrast very effectively with the sculptural teak form.

Verner Panton Heart Cone Chair

IMG_8143_clipped_rev_1

Just in time for Valentines  Day!

We are excited to show this rare and iconic Heart Cone chair by Danish Designer Verner Panton.

In the mid-1950′s, Verner panton converted a Volkswagen bus into a mobile studio and travelled across Europe. In 1958 he returned to Denmark full of unconventional ideas… one of which evolved into the iconic Heart Cone Chair. Defying gravity, the cone was both futuristic and shocking… so much so that when it was exhibited in a shop window in New York City police had to order its removal due to the traffic chaos its presence created. The Heart Cone Chair takes its name from its unique heart-shaped silhouette!

This beautiful chair is currently part of our Valentines Day window display along with other great examples of design.  All in Mid-Century Red naturally!

‘Vegetal’ chairs by Ronan + Erwan Bouroullec

IMG_7169 IMG_7174

Just in time for Spring!

Relax in these beautiful organic ‘Vegetal’ chairs designed by French duo Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec.

Designed in 2008 and made by renowned Swiss manufacturer Vitra these sculptural outdoor/indoor stacking chairs were inspired by historical gardens of the 20th century, where young trees grew into furniture like structures through continual care and deliberate pruning.

Made from a high density weather resistant polyamide, the ‘Vegetal’ features flat branch structures woven in three levels to form a round slightly irregular seating shell. On the underside, the chair is stabilized by ribs that form out of the supportive legs.

The end result being a chair that appears to have been grown rather than made!

In a development process that took four years, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec worked with Vitra to create a universal chair for indoors and outdoors whose contours seem borrowed from nature. On occasion we acquire some really great Japanese design!

We love the Pop sensibility of this unique ‘Male + Female’ modernist clock designed Ko Mizuyama.

Made by Niko, Japan (a company which we know very little about) the frame is solid Aluminum with an  quartz battery movement for maximum accuracy.

Complete with Japanese labels on reverse which leads us to believe that this clock was intended for the domestic market only.

Scandinavian ‘Pod’ lounge chair

We love the style and versatility of this 1970′s ‘Pod’ lounge chair.

Attributed to either Danish or Swedish manufacture the design is compact and low but still manages to feel comfortable and roomy for its occupant. The flexibility of the swivel also means that the user can engage many situations with minimum effort.

Newly upholstered in ‘Cobalt’ blue wool fabric this lounger is the perfect addition to any smaller interior!

We love the form and superior quality of these modernist bar stools.

Constructed from leather and chromed steel they are certainly the nicest stools we have shown for some time. The triangular foot rest and clipped base are a stylish touch.

Designed by Actona, Denmark they also include a useful height adjustable lever to enable the user to incrementally adjust the seat for optimal comfort.

Perfect of any modernist interior, particularly ones with any pieces by Mies van der Rohe.

Made in Denmark.

FRZ German folding trolley

We love this great modernist folding trolley designed by Louis Lucien Lepoix for FRZ-Mettallwarenfabrik, West Germany.

This sturdy trolley folds for storage to a width of just three inches! The self locking handles on each side smoothly open and close the collapsible metal frame making this trolley the most radical space saving piece of furniture that we have ever shown.

It is no surprise to discover that this clever piece of portable furniture is featured in the permanent collection of the MOMA, New York.

Perfect for the kitchen, balcony or even media use!

Dated 1983
